This Saturday, while most of Europe will celebrate an event that prides itself on difference and diversity, thousands of LGBT youth will be left on the streets for being different.

This Saturday, while most of Europe will revel in the continued progression of a show that unremittingly pushes ‘the norm’, thousands of LGBT youth will be homeless simply for being brave enough to come out and be themselves.

So, this Saturday, while most of Europe celebrates over 50 years of fantastic television, you should do something remarkable by hosting a Eurovision Party in aid of the Albert Kennedy Trust.

For the past 25 years AKT has strived to provide support and accommodation for young people who have been rendered homeless due to their sexual orientation or gender identification.

While they are on the streets, many will have had to contend with mental health issues, alcohol abuse, homophobic bullying and sexual exploitation, issues AKT are placed to support vulnerable individuals with in their time of need. Annually, the Trust receives over 2,000 calls and as this number continues to rise, so does the Trust’s need to fundraise.
This is where you come in.

In the spirit of Eurovision, a show born out of the concept of bringing people together, the AKT are encouraging us to gather our nearest, dearest and most fabulous friends and family to raise money for an incredibly worthy cause.

Every little helps

You don’t have to raise a fortune to make a big difference:

£20 could help train a mentor to support a young LGBT person who has been rejected by their family.

£50 could help buy clothes and basic provisions for a young LGBT person who has had to flee their family home with no possessions of their own.

£100 could help provide safe accommodation for a young LGBT person in crisis for a week in supported lodgings.

So, whether you’re unapologetically singing along to Conchita Wurst’s opening number, or trying to hide your bitter disappointment at the UK having once again scored ‘nil points’, remember that a Eurovision Night In simply isn’t the same spent alone.

As your friends dance in your kitchen and spill cocktails on your nice new rug, remember the young people who would have had nowhere to turn had it not been for AKT. Join them in their mission. Help make a difference to the youth that are homeless for simply having the courage to be themselves. Host a Eurovision Party for the Albert Kennedy Trust. It’s time to #AKTParty!
